Description

One of the most famous works (1st ed. 1637, published anonymously) that made Descartes the first of the modern philosophers and one of the most modern scientists. Descartes claimed that knowledge must be based on the experience of the mind. His method consisted essentially of reducing problems to simpler questions and then reconstructing them back into more complex ones. The accompanying essays on optics and meteorology demonstrate the type of results that can be obtained using his rules of scientific investigation. Illustrated with 7 full-page woodcuts and woodcuts or diagrams in the text. Theodore Girard edition.
